NATURAL SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

Natural search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via natural (non-paid) search results. Typically, the earlier a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. I can make minor changes to your site that will optimize your site to score higher in the search results for keywords or key phrases. The elements that I will optimize will include your meta tags, the names of your pages, the words that you use as navigational links, and the text copy (what the visitors read). I will be concentrating on Google for it is the most important engine and the easiest to control. Google-optimized pages tend to do well on all the major engines.

Below is a screenshot from the Google webmaster tools forum that shows the top search queries for my educational site Early Childhood Links. If you look at the position column you will note that I am in the top 10 for these 50 search queries. There are actually lots more - that is all that Google will pull up per page. I am sharing this because frankly I have not updated the search engine tags on these pages for approximately five years now (had three more babies in that time span). The tags on these pages are the old-school style from the early to mid 2000's were it was common practice to bang keywords over and over again in the title and description tags without much regard for whether the resulting text string is an enticing read. That is why you are seeing such a low click through rate on many of these high rankings. Google is actually pretty easy to control.
