
Mat Pilates The Pilates (pul-LAH-teez) Method of body conditioning is a system of stretching and strengthening exercises developed by Joseph H. Pilates. Pilates, was born in Germany in 1880 and served as a German intern in England during World War I. In 1926, he moved to New York with his wife and opened his own body conditioning studio. Uniting body and mind to work together toward the goal of overall fitness, the Pilates method strengthens and tones core muscles (abs and back) and smaller muscle groups, improving posture, and providing flexibility and balance. |
